Arita Ware
Arita ware refers to porcelain produced in Arita-cho, Saga and its surrounding areas, and it has been widely used since the Meiji era. In the Edo period, it was called Imari ware or Hizen ware.
It is said that in the early 17th century the Korean potter, Sanbei Kanagae (commonly known as Li Sanpei) and others discovered the porcelain stone used as the raw material for porcelain in Izumiyama, Arita.
As the first porcelain production area in Japan, it has continued manufacturing for 400 years centering on tableware and arts and crafts.
